Knowledge of commonly used hvac symbols and abbreviations is an essential trait that must be possessed by all HVAC engineers. Currently, the AEC industry suffers from the absence of a universal hvac symbols chart.  For this reason, different schematics may show different symbols. Usage may vary according to firm or location. That being said, it is possible to compile a set of commonly used symbols. Provided below is the set of most used hvac symbols in their typical forms. Although this hvac symbols library is not exhaustive by any means, all essential elements have been outlined. Make sure to refer to the hvac symbols legend drawings (usually among the first couple of drawings) in order to get an idea of all the hvac symbols and abbreviations used in the document set.
